Dr. Shelly Friedman has a strong background in dermatology and has been performing hair transplant surgery as the primary part of his practice for over 25 years.  As the former founding president of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABHRS), Dr. Friedman was an early advocate of establishing formal standards for the hair transplant profession.

As a huge fan of Hasson and Wong, Dr. Friedman adopted their lateral slit technique into his clinic in 2003 however he does not require shaving of the recipient area during the procedure.  He believes using custom cut blades allows each graft to fit perfectly into minimally invasive incisions as small as 0.65mm while minimizing trauma to the scalp.  Such tiny incisions enable him to place incisions and grafts very close together to achieve excellent density in one session. 

Dr. Friedman believes that by combining gentleness and experience he can produce the most natural looking hair transplant and maximize hair growth yield.  By using a minimally invasive single blade to harvest the donor strip, Dr. Friedman minimizes the risk of transection (damage to the hair follicles preventing hair growth).  Dr. Friedman uses a double layer trichophytic closure to reduce the appearance of the scar.  All follicular units are carefully dissected and trimmed under microscopes and carefully placed into tiny recipient sites by his experienced staff. 

Dr. Friedman is a member of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) and is also a board certified diplomate of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABHRS).
