Why Dr. Rassman is recommended.
Many physicians claim to be pioneers in advancing hair transplantation. But no informed person would dispute that Dr. Bill Rassman is a true pioneer in refining and widely advocating the adoption of Follicular Unit Hair Transplantation.

For his significant contributions to the advancement of hair restoration surgery Dr. Rassman was awarded the highest honor in hair restoration surgery in 2003 - the “Golden Follicle Award”.
The innovations that he fought for, such as large sessions of microscopically prepared follicular unit grafting, are now widely accepted and practiced. Patients who today benefit from natural follicular unit hair transplantation owe a debt of gratitude to Dr. Rassman, directly or indirectly, for fighting the good fight to make this procedure the acknowledged “Gold Standard in Hair Transplantation”.
Dr. Rassman has always been willing to point out when the emperor had no clothes even when it made him unpopular with his colleagues. He was willing to put himself in the line of fire for what he believed in as a major in Vietnam. As a hair restoration physician he once again stood up under fire and was finally awarded the Golden Follicle Award.
Dr. Rassman has also been a true pioneer in using the Internet to educate patients about cutting edge hair restoration techniques. His New Hair Institute website is an excellent resource for any person considering hair transplantation. Today he continues to be on the cutting edge of ultra refined hair transplant techniques and online patient education. He authors the most popular and respected hair restoration blog on the Web – the Balding Blog.com.
He is also the author of “The Patient's Guide to Hair Restoration”. This book explains, in layman's language, what causes baldness, how baldness is diagnosed and the best medical and surgical options available today – including the proper use of medication and how to repair the poor results of older surgical procedures. The Patient's Guide's extensive photo section includes more than 100 color photographs of patients in various stages of hair restoration.
Due to his world renown reputation and high demand for his services, Dr. Rassman fees are higher than those of his NHI associate Dr. Jae Pak, M.D. However, Dr. Rassman is willing to reduce his normal surgical fee of $10 per graft down to $6 per graft for those who are willing to do surgery in his Los Angeles office on a "Standby" basis and be called less than ten days prior to surgery.
For those who would like to schedule surgery with him more than ten days in advance he is willing to reduce his fee down to $8 per graft for surgery in his Los Angeles office. After 2,000 grafts all additional grafts will be charged at half rate. Travel reimbursement credits up to 5% of fees paid will still apply.
Note - To qualify for these special discounts patients must refer to the "Coalition Special" when they initially contact the New Hair Institute's office.
Dr. Rassman founded the New Hair Institute (NHI) in 1991. Shortly after NHI became a world leader in hair restoration surgery and in hair transplant technology. NHI’s cutting edge techniques and technologies enabled them to perform hair transplants with large numbers of grafts in single surgeries. These high graft counts were previously thought possible only with four to ten surgeries.
Dr. Rassman defied the skeptics by pioneering the high density “Megasession” in 1992-4. He was the first to do 2000 grafts, 3000 grafts and 4000 grafts in single sessions. These large “Fast Track®” sessions enabled a patient to complete their hair restoration in just one or two sessions.
Dr. Rassman’s many innovations in techniques and equipment have been presented at medical meetings around the world and published in industry newsletters and prestigious medical journals. With Dr. Robert Bernstein, he developed techniques that have proven to be the gold standard for hair transplantation around the world: The Follicular Unit Transplantation. He and Dr. Bernstein published these results in a series of peer-reviewed articles in major medical journals.
Dr. Rassman continues to push the state of the art in hair transplantation forward. He was one of the very first physicians to refine and introduce Follicular Unit Extraction™ (FUE™). In this technique, individual follicular units are extracted directly from the donor area without the traditional linear incision in the back of the scalp. The advantages of FUE™ are that these procedures can be performed on patients with very limited donor hair. Healing is also fast and without visible scarring in the donor area.
As a professional inventor, who holds both U.S. and worldwide patents, Dr Rassman invented the Densitometer™ for the precise measurement of hair density and hair quality. Such precise measurements are now the standard, required of all ethical medical practitioners in diagnosis of the balding patient. Three other inventions in medical instrumentation have U.S. Patents, either granted or pending, in the hair transplantation arena. He holds multiple patents in an artificial heart device, other medical devices, computer software, and, more recently, in the biochip field (patent pending), an area where he has great interest.
Dr. William Rassman graduated from the Medical College of Virginia in 1966 where he received his Doctor of Medicine. He completed a surgical internship at the University of Minnesota and obtained a cardiovascular fellowship with Dr. C.W. Lillehei. Dr. Rassman completed a residency in general surgery at the Cornell Medical Center and Dartmouth Medical Center. He served in the U.S. Army, reaching the rank of Major. He was stationed as a surgeon in the Republic of Vietnam. The American Board of Surgery certified Dr. Rassman in 1976.
