I started losing my hair from a very early age. I was 17 and I remember getting comments from my friends about how I would soon become bald. I had learned to live with it till last year when I decided to do something about it. That is when I found out about this wonderful website and I began educating myself until I felt that I was mentally ready to go for it. Many thanks to David, Bill, Pat and everyone else who take time to log in and feed this site with all the valuable information needed for someone like me to help me take charge and finally do something about my hair loss.
At about mid September I sent my pics for evaluation to Hasson and Wong. Joe then calls me 10 days later. He tells me that he needs to see more pictures of the top of my head which I send the next day. On October 11 I call the clinic to get some feedback. Joe tells me that based on the pictures I provided I would need roughly 4000 to 4500 grafts. I then ask about when Dr Hasson's next opening is. Joe tells me that one was in mid November, which I turned down because I would be away on a family vacation a week later. The next possible opening was at the end of January 2012. It seemed a little far away but what can I say? It was the best option i had at that point. Dr. Hasson is the surgeon I chose based on what I learned from researching on the internet since last year. I decided to reserve the date. Joe then calls me a few hours later to inform me that a cancellation ocurred and a new opening appeared for Friday October 14. He wanted to know if I was interested in filling up Dr Hasson's empty seat. It seemed a little short notice, but I was thrilled about getting the operation done sooner regardless. I just started my scalp exersises 2 days ago but I knew inside me, I was ready and willing. I tell him "You know what Joe? Sign me up man. I'm ready."

I guess I'd been aware of losing hair ever since a colleague in the lab where I was doing research mentioned a small bald spot in the middle of my then fashionable head of curls. That was around 1977, when I was 25. A few years passed, and I ended up booking an appointment with one of the more infamous hair replacement outfits around, Svenson, based in - ironically - Wigmore Street in London. Having parted with a £1000 for two 'state of the art' units, which were horrifically thick wefts of hair attached to my own hair by braiding, I was then pretty much doomed to wearing systems for the rest of my life unless something (or someone) came along which either made me ditch them or offered a realistic alternative. Back in those days, hair transplantation was in its infancy, and anything that was done was pluggy and expensive. Svenson went, Senator Crown came and went, and then I found a nice, reliable lady called Heather who tended to my locks through my years post med school and then through 18 years as a consultant in the NHS. The biggest revolution during those years was sourcing hair pieces through the internet, the best players in my book being Toplace and Coolpiece. The internet also made it easier to discover what was happening with hair transplantation outside the UK, which took me to the major decision to book an appointment with Hasson & Wong for surgery the week after I retire, in May 2012. In preparation for this, I also started taking dutasteride (Avodart) in Feb 2010. The timing seems absolutely right, as my hair loss has stabilised (a Norwood 5A for many years), I've got a good donor area and transplantation techniques are probably as good as they're going to get. I can't say that I'm facing this without some apprehension but at least I won't have to go into work with a baseball cap!

Losing hair since early 20s (over +10 years) in the middle of my college years. I didn't think much of it at first since I was too busy worrying about graduating school and landing a job. Shortly after graduation, the job market was difficult, and most unemployed like myself stay up late and watch info-commercials, like hair transplant! Doing numerous research, the idea of strip procedure and cutting my scalp pretty much scared me from ever doing hair transplant. In addition, the FUE procedure was just being develop. Obviously at the time, not many surgeons can do this procedure and was probably very expensive back then. So over the course of several years, I'll spend every now and then on hair transplant on the internet, but never really taken it seriously.

Flash forward to summer of 2011. In one summer weekend afternoon, I was watching Transporter 3, starring Jason Statham. A bald guy with the buzz-cut looks very good on him. He's of the rare exception that do not need a hair transplant. I figure I probably might look good if I buzz-cut my hair. So the following day I buzz-cut it and as soon as I looked in the mirror, I immediately regret doing it. I've done a lot of crazy things in my life, and that was one of them. So the following day, I've decided to do some research about FUE procedure.

As a general rule, it's never wise to pick someone locally. But since I live in the Bay Area, I wanted to see if there might be a chance that a large population area can have at least one decent doctor that could help me. So I googled something like "FUE Bay Area" or "Fue San Francisco". And I found some guy name Dr John Diep. Naturally, you google his name, research everything about him, and looked through his website. He has great reviews, John Diep is board certified with the ISHRS & AHLC and worked under Dr William Rassman. Voted one of the best hair surgeon in 2010. One of the best and few FUE surgeons in California. And specializes in ethnic hairline.

One of the most amazing things that attracted me to his clinic was the hundreds of YouTube videos that he creates for all his patients. (YouTube Username: jgdiep) There is no other hair doctors out there that would take the time to video his work, included before and after photos, and customer testimonials. He also explains his "7 rules for hairline".

I decided to immediately schedule a consultation with Dr Diep. Dr Diep is professional, caring, addresses your need, answer all your questions with honesty, and educate you on the procedure. He even drew where my appropriate hairline should be. I felt good leaving the consultation, but I also wanted to carefully think it over before making any decisions since I had my upcoming Hawaii trip to look forward to. So after sitting on the beach and chugging down Mai Tais for two weeks, I decided that I want this FUE procedure with Dr John Diep. But there was still the issue of finding time away from work for at least a week.

As many months went by, and doing hundreds of more hair transplant research, I was able to find the right date (late December) to do the procedure. So I scheduled a 2nd consultation with Dr Diep, and asked him even more questions than the first time. I felt comfortable with Dr Diep and went ahead to book my procedural date. We will attempt to do 2,000 FUE grafts to build my mature hairline and fill in the rest of the top.

I remember working with a very honest individual when I was aged 26 back in October 2005.

I bent down to pick something up infront of us and when I stood up I could see his face had a look of shock. I knew what he had seen and then a few seconds later he said.

"You have a huge bald spot on your head".

I replied "I know".

He then said "Man, I would be devastated if that happened to me".

I replied "What can I do about it?"

He never said anything else and I left soon after and haven't seen him since. But I wouldn't mind seeing him again now, aged 32 in September 2011...

I have been thinning out since as early as 21 (yes its been about 18 years) and have held it together with Rogain for the first 10 years and finasteride for the last 6 years. For the most part I will tell you this stuff really works to keep your hair although I wouldn't say I have grown new hair...maybe if I started finasteride earlier I would have been able to gain some.

I have been keeping my hair styled with various makeup concealers but quite frankly tired of the mess and the continuous upkeep. Also my hair started to recede to a point that I no longer could use it effectively.

I have been researching a hair transplant for the last 10 years and when I was all said and done I decided to go for it. It also helped that there was a fantastic doctor already here in Tucson with whom I have seen a number of results that were consistently good.

I began noticing thinning in the crown when I was in my early 30's. Over the years, it gradually progressed to the point you can see in my "before" pictures.

I had looked at hair transplants for a very long time, but could never really afford (or justify) the cost until recently.

I researched surgeons on the Hair Transplant Network, had a number of online assessments with various surgeons, and met with Dr. Leonard Aronovitz and his nephew James Aronovitz a few times over the last 5-7 years.

Recently, I decided to just "go for it", and did additional checking into Dr. Aronovitz' (Leonard) reputation, and decided to go to him.

He told me I was a very good candidate, especially given a decent donor area and my hair coloring (light brown and gray), and the pattern of my balding.

I had my surgery this morning - details to follow.

I started to recede at the temples in my early twenties, by the age of 27 my hair loss became more severe and at the age of 34 I panicked and rushed to the first company I found in a magazine without any research. Biggest mistake I ever made. You cant spend your life beating yourself over the head with a big stick every time you make a mistake, so when I came to terms with a less than acceptable transplant and still the problem of hair loss i started to research and came across spex, who helped me finally get things in order and helped me move forward.

Like most guys on here, hair loss took over my life for many years, confidence was gone and I lived under a hat due to how I felt about myself. I know a lot of people out there think it's vanity but it's not, well not for me. It was purely a confidence issue and I felt totally insecure in every part of my life because of it.

I started losing my hair at 19...i paniked and had a hair transplant with minigrafts..500 approx, to make a long story short I am 37 now and I have a transplant scheduled with Dr Rahal on January 19, 2012...I am looking to get 4000 plus grafts to soften my existing grafts and add some density...I feel I have chosen the best surgeon available and I am so excited, not to sound to gay, but I am! I hope one year from now things will be a lot different. My wife is supportive and she is behind me, which helps a lot.. any way, I am gonna add some photos from January,2011. I will post pre op pictures and many post pictures throughout the whole process.. also, I just recently, 6 months ago, got back on finasteride and rogaine..I hope I will see some added benefit from that before my surgery!!

I’ve being suffering from male pattern genetic baldness since I was 30; I’m now 48. During this time I managed to disguise this fact through the use of various hair thickeners and concealers, combined with various intricate combovers (think Donald Trump!) and could get away with it until fairly recently. But it got to the stage where I began to feel self-conscious about it, and increasingly anxious about being discovered due to harsh winds, rain or other unforeseen combover related calamities.

So in the end, I decided to get a hair transplant. I had thought about this option several years ago, but didn’t have the money available then, and wearing a hairpiece was something I didn’t consider, as that would have made me even more nervous in high winds, despite the very good glues and tapes I hear you can get to secure hairpieces.

Being based in the UK, I didn’t want to travel abroad for a hair transplant, and so did some research on UK doctors (mainly from reading the Hair Restoration Social Network’s forum) and saw that of the UK doctors, Dr Bessam Farjo was recommended above all, so I decided to go with him, and had a hair transplant in November 2011.

*** After checking my results in person, Dr Hasson agreed that the results were not optimal and agreed to do a follow up procedure. The follow up procedure was performed on 5/7/2012 and I received 1620 grafts in the front 3rd of my scalp to help thicken things up in the front. After around 3 months of doing scalp excersizes daily, Dr Hasson said that my elasticity was really good compared to before but unfortunately this is the most he could get due to previous procedures.

I would like to thank Dr Hasson, Joe Tillman and the rest of the staff at Hasson and Wong for working with me on this and by all accounts trying thier best to make things right. I think the reason I was so upset before is that I felt my concerns were being ignored and while I don't think things were handled in the best possible way, I now feel it was more of a misunderstanding and or miscommunication rather than something maliscious and not caring about a client.

I will be posting updates with pictures and I will keep my fingers crossed that things turn out well this time.

April 14th 2011 update, Hasson and Wong have offered to fly me to Vancouver, I will be making arrangements shortly so they can see the results first hand. I would like to commend them for taking action at this time.

*******Update April 11th 2011, after sending multiple emails to Hasson and Wong, they are refusing to help me in any way saying this direct quote:

"your results are more than adequate and in fact very good." To which I said what ???????..... I DON"T THINK SO !

The only way I can get my hair to look even half way decent is by using lots of DermMatch to cover up the thin spots, which is basically the entire grafted area, yes it's all thin and see through !

It's been over 2 years now since my hair transplant with Dr Hasson and I could not be more disappointed with the results !! I picked Dr Hasson because I thought H & W were the best but as you can see my results are very poor, the hairline is completely see through and I have to use Dermmatch on a daily basis to avoid looking awful !! Now with the scar, I no longer have the option to shave my head and I'm very upset, angry and don't know what to do at this point. I don't have another $14,000 to spend on another HT to fix this one

I began to notice my hair loss at 24 years of age and decided to do something about it. I had a hair transplant done in 2004 of a supposed amount of 1200 grafts and and another hair transplant in 2005 of a supposed 1000 grafts. I entered into these procedures very naively. The result in 2011 was a very thin hairline, frontal area and crown (the areas worked on) and I was left with two 5 cm scars which are very hard to hide with short hair. So in 2011 I decided to "fix" and hopefully improve my hair loss. As I was considering a clinic that is well known but not recommended because of their poor work, I found the hair transplant network which I believed saved me from making another mistake.

Like many of us, I have been slowly losing my hair for about 10 years give or take as I am now in my very early 30's. I began noticing my hairline at the corners thinning a bit but I didn't think that going bald would happen to me (we always think it happens to the next person but never to me?!). I watched the corners continue to thin throughout my 20's when I remember I started noticing it in the mirror and also I remember a co-worker said something to me and from then on it hair loss has plagued me and my every waking moment. I suddenly became obsessed with trying to conceal my hairline as it wasn't horrible (early NW 3) but it was a nightmare to style and not show people I was losing my hairline. I found concealers which helped dramatically in saving my 20's. It saved my self confidence even though it wasn't and still isn't ideal especially that I have to have it on at all times. It kept my obsession at bay for many years allowing me to lead somewhat of a normal 20's always worrying about my hair but never really having anyone say that I was balding because the concealer was so good especially that I just needed it in the hairline. However, now in my early 30's, I am using more and more and it is becoming a chore as I have lost more hairline hair. I thankfully found this great site and finally after all those years of worrying and feeling inadequate under my concealer, I am going to take the leap of faith and get a HT. I decided to go with Dr. Rahal and I feel I am in great hands to get back my hairline and be able to put my hairloss behind me which I haven't been able to do for 10 years! I hope that once I restore my hairline and I kick the concealers, my life will finally be able to begin and I can be able to finally push "PLAY" !

As the years went by my hair started to thin but I didnt realy notice anything untill I was around 26 years old. I tried various different non surgical treatments but in the end it did continue to get worse. I have lost hair from the front and from the crown.

Since I have done the transplant the results are good but im still waiting for the full results which take up to 1 year - 1 1/2.
