Name:

Severn

Before my 3008 HT from Ron Shapiro Before my 3008 HT from Ron Shapiro

Level of
Baldness:

Bald Class 3v

Surgical
Treatments:

Performed 3 scalp reductions and 400 mini grafts with Bosely in 1996.  The last scalp reduction was put under too much tension and left a mess with stretching and created a hematoma at the back crown.  The 400 mini grafts made no difference of course.

Recently had an excellent session with Dr. Ron Shapiro Oct. 12, 2009 with 3008 FU's carpet bombing the problem area.

Severn had surgery performed by Dr. Ron Shapiro

Non-Surgical
Treatments:

Started minoxidyl when it first became available back in 1989.  I was a great responder in that it completely restored my crown hair, but lost its effectiveness after about 3-4 years.  Took finisteride in 1996 and was a great responder to that too.  It completely restored my crown area but also lost its potency and I was back where I started after about 4 years.

 My Hair Loss Story.

Started losing hair in crown at 25 over a large area.  Frontal core and hairline has held up reasonably well though.

How has my hair loss affected me?

The normal anxieties and loss of self esteem.

What hair loss treatments have worked best for me?

Minoxidyl (4 years) and Finisteride (4 years).

Am I happy with my hair transplant experience and the results?

The procedure at SMG was great.  A very professional work environment.  I have confidence in Dr. Shapiro's work though so we shall see what I have at half way through 2010.

 My general advice and suggestions.

Buzz or shave your head and live with it a minimum of 6 months before considering a transplant.  You may find you don't mind it or even prefer the look.  Once you start down the HT path, you can never turn back.
