Rogaine for 10 days. Discontinued it because the hair style used to get real messy and the fact that I have to use for the life time.

Propecia from past 3 weeks.

 My Hair Loss Story.

I'm 26 and a South Asian. Over the past few years, I've been experiencing very gradual hair loss. But it is only from past few months that the loss has noticeably accelerated around the temple and frontal areas. My temple areas are very deep now and the frontal area hair is thinning quite a bit. All these days, frontal area did a good job of camoflouging the temple areas but not anymore (unless I spend whole lot of time in front of mirror). Just like everyone, I researched a lot about hairloss and consulted a couple of dermatologists. They recommended Propecia with Rogaine. Used Rogiane for around 10 days and stopped as I felt it as impossible for me to put it twice daily without messing up my hair style. But I continued using Propecia anyways. However, I'm going to switch to Proscar very soon due its low cost (in costco) and the fact it has the same chemical Finasteride like in Propecia.

Hair Transplanation:

Never in my life did I think about hair transpantation. I tried as much to avoid it. Initially, the idea of getting a hair transplantation done itself was scary. But, however, as my hairline receded further, I had to give it a serious thought. I ended up consulting a hair transplant surgeon here in Seattle ( I wouldn't name him). At the end of consultation, I was not feeling confidence in him. As I was thinking of finding another hair transplant surgeon for consultation (this time I was ready to travel even out of state), I landed on this website. I was very impressed by the way everyones shares their experience in the community with before/after photos and how the publishers of this website did a fabulous job in researching on surgeons and their results for recommendations. Then I saw the recommendation for Dr.Radha Palakurthi. I was impressed by her results through the photos shown. Also the fact that I can go to India for this surgery and have a good vacation too. It seemed more reasoable, cost effective and a better idea. I emailed Dr.Radha but never got a reply for two days. Then I called her up directly and she said was very busy and was going to contact me (her assistants gave the Doctor mobile number). We spoke over the phone for a of couple times on the details and now I reserved a slot for the surgery on Aug 16th 2012. I'm looking forward to this surgery and hope everything goes well.

How has my hair loss affected me?

It did shattered my confidence quite a bit. I guess it just takes time to get it back after the treatment regime. Patience is important.

What hair loss treatments have worked best for me?

Too early to comment on this.

 My general advice and suggestions.

Early detection helps and that is what I did. Being in denial will make the things worse. Always keep a close on your hair and hair fall. Always keep track of the no of hairs shedding during bath. That should give you the rough estimate how severe (or better) your hairloss is getting.
