Typical Male Pattern Baldness receeding hairline started slowly during my mid 20's and progressed throughout my 30's and seemed to stabilize somewhat in my early 40's. I had a general thinning of my crown which started in my mid 30's and progressed since then.

I purchased hair loss shampoo products but never used them. My primary physician offered to prescribe Propecia when I was still in my late 30's but I declined at the time, because I didn't like the idea of taking medication for the long term. I suspect if I had started taking it then I probably wouldn't have experienced such a dramatic progression of balding on my crown.

I was disappointed to find myself going through Male Pattern Baldness, especially since I can't point to anyone else in my family going through it...it was a surprise to me. I always thought I'd have a full head of hair.

I've recently come to terms with my hair loss and receeding hairline (don't really want to have the hairline of a 20yo), but I don't really like having a large bald spot in the back of my head.

I don't think I would say it has affected me to the point of keeping me from doing anything. I didn't wear hats to hide my hair loss. I accepted it reluctantly, but didn't really like it. Since I have the option, I wanted to try to do something about it, and I did.

I spent many years researching and reflecting before deciding to have a hair transplant. I would certainly recommend thorough research before taking such a step. I can't stress this enough: research, research, research!

I am very happy with my hair transplant experience and my result so far. The surgery with Dr. Cooley and his staff completely exceeded my expectations.

I was very comfortable throughout the entire proceedure. The hardest part was having to relax for so long. Something amazing about my experience is that Dr. Cooley started suturing my donor site before I had even realized the donor strip had been removed. I remember this because I was kind of dreading the removal of the donor strip..honestly, no big deal!

I was very impressed with how well the technicians worked with Dr. Cooley. Those folks know what they are doing and they do it very, very well.

I would recommend anyone talk with your doctor about medication to prevent further hairloss. I wish I had done this sooner.

I would also recommend a hair transplant for anyone who is bothered by their hairloss and wants to do something about it. The surgery itself is the easy part (just do your research and find a well qualified surgeon with a well qualified staff!)...the difficult part is waiting for the results.

It's too soon for me to talk about how the surgery has changed my life. At this time, I'm about 2 1/2 month post op, and I'm waiting for my transplanted hair to come out of the resting phase and start growing!

I am glad I had this surgery and I'm really looking forward to the "reverse balding process" during 2007!
