 My Hair Loss Story.

When my late 20's rolled around I started getting comments on my crown. After several years of insults and jokes and extensive research on hair transplantation I decided to take the plunge.

How has my hair loss affected me?

I bought an amazing amount of hats.

What hair loss treatments have worked best for me?

I like the convenience of Finasteride (Proscar). It's easy to add to your daily routine. I've been on it for one year now and I've had no problems with side-effects. I feel like it's definitely maintaining my present hair and maybe even fostering new growth.

I'm also taking a multi-vitamin with Biotin.

Am I happy with my hair transplant experience and the results?

My initial research for transplantation led me to Dr. Bradley Limmer whose father (Dr. B.L. Limmer) developed the technique of follicular unit micrografting. I was afraid of getting the dreaded plugs you always hear about so it seemed obvious to call the clinic that pioneered a solution for that unfortunate surgical effect.

My initial phone consultation with "Dr. Brad" was encouraging. He examined pictures of my hair (I had emailed) and set what seemed like very realistic goals for my first surgery. I didn't feel like he was selling me anything. In fact, I kept trying to hint that I wanted more hair. He encouraged me to moderate and reminded me I could always come back after a year or so if I wanted more hair. This seemed reasonable (being it was my first surgery and I didn't know how my hair loss would progress) so we agreed to around 1700 grafts.

The day of surgery was chock full of nerves and excitement. Dr. Limmer's staff made it seem like a cakewalk. I watched a movie, drank a lot of soft drinks, got a free lunch (courtesy of the clinic) and had plenty of interesting conversations with the staff.

A year later I am enjoying the results to their fullest (check out my pictures) and I've just finished my second hair transplant surgery at the Limmer Clinic. I highly recommend Dr. Limmer to anyone interested in hair transplantation.

What hair loss treatments would I recommend?

Finasteride. No side-effects (after one year) that I've noticed.

Hair Transplant. With a qualified surgeon.

The above two solutions worked quite well for me.

How has hair restoration surgery changed my life?

I am using a hair dryer again and slowly remembering how I used to style my hair in my 20's.

 My general advice and suggestions.

Research pricing. You can get competitive rates without sacrificing quality.

Also, get on Finasteride as soon as you can if you are losing your hair. I had the opportunity to start meds a few years ago but was afraid of side-effects. None of my fears about medication turned out to be real. I could have probably saved a lot of the hair on my crown if I had started meds earlier. Plus, the literature indicates that Finasteride may help prevent Prostate Cancer.
