19 Year Old Diffuse Hair Thinner Considering Hair Transplant Surgery - 3/18/2008 11:39:01 AM

Question:
I'm 19 years old and I'm not experiencing a lot of hair loss, but extreme hair thinning. I am considering hair transplant surgery and would like advice on a good hair restoration physician. Any help would be appreciated.
Answer:
From the description of your hair loss, it sounds like you may be a diffuse hair thinner. At 19 years old and extreme hair thinning, I would not recommend hair replacement surgery at this time.
Do yourself a favor and consider getting on Propecia (finasteride) and Rogaine (minoxidil) for at least a year to see if you can at the very least, stop your hair loss and possibly regrow hair. Using these hair loss treatments in combination with one another will give you the greatest chance of restoring your hair.
Please be sure however, to research not only the benefits but potential side effects of these medications and speak to a physician before proceeding with any hair loss drugs.
