Dr. Carlos Wesley is a board certified diplomat of the ABHRS and performs high quality follicular unit hair transplants with excellent results.

Why Dr. Wesley is recommended.

Dr. Carlos Wesley has been performing quality follicular unit hair transplantation exclusively for over 4 years at his clinic in New York and operates on only one patient per day.  Having trained under Dr. Walter Unger, a pioneer in modern hair transplantation, Dr. Wesley and his full time staff of 6 have the skill and ability to perform up to 2500 follicular unit grafts in a single session when appropriate for the patient.

Dr. Wesley is an avid believer in providing patients with what they need and not necessarily with what they want.  Dr. Wesley stresses the importance of establishing clear communication and realistic expectations for each patient.  Coupled with his state of the art technique, Dr. Wesley believes that a thorough analysis of the patient’s hair characteristics and an accurate understanding of their objectives promote healthy and realistic expectations and a satisfying end result for his patients.

Dr. Wesley stays away from “cookie cutter” hair transplants and customizes his procedure for each patient.  Using tiny, sterile, hypodermic needles as small 20 gauge (approximately .88mm), Dr. Wesley creates parallel (sagital) incisions to minimize trauma to pre-existing hairs and out-of-body time for the grafts.  Dr. Wesley uses single hairs exclusively to re-create the critical hairline to produce natural looking and undetectable results.

Dr. Wesley personally designs the entire recipient area and clearly communicates the placement pattern to the planting staff specifying where each type of graft should be placed.  All follicular units are dissected and trimmed under microscopes and then carefully placed into tiny recipient sites by his experienced staff.

Dr. Wesley uses a single blade to harvest the donor strip to maximize control and minimize follicular transection and damage.  Dr. Wesley typically uses the revolutionary trichophytic closure technique using a continuous single-layer suture with sterile, 3-0 nylon sutures with only a few exceptions.  He believes coupling this technique with minimal tension on the wound produces virtually undetectable scarring.  Dr. Wesley prefers a standard closure to the trichophytic closure on patients with white hair, poor scalp elasticity and on lighter haired female patients.  In instances of donor closure under higher tension, Dr. Wesley uses absorbable vicryl interrupted deep sutures in and around the areas of increased tension after undermining along both edges of the wound.  Dr. Wesley uses the undermining technique to reduce tension on the wound while the extra sutures help promote optimal healing and minimal scarring.

Dr. Wesley places grafts up to 35 FU/cm2 in order to maximize growth yield and provide patients with a totally natural looking result.  While higher densities typically sound impressive to patients, Dr. Wesley feels that the vast majority of patients don’t require more than 35 FU/cm2 to promote the appearance of fullness.  Additionally, Coalition member Dr. Limmer’s hair survival study revealed that this may be the maximum density that will yield the highest percentage of viable transplanted growth.  However, patients who require or want additional density in an area can achieve this by returning for a second procedure.

Carlos K. Wesley, M.D. (NYC) - FUE Frontal Fullness 2331 Grafts

p>Using a 0.8mm follicular unit extraction (FUE) punch, Dr. Wesley was able to harvest 2331 in a single session. The patient can be seen before, during, and after his session. Even one week after his FUE procedure, this patient felt comfortable returning to work.

Carlos K. Wesley, M.D. = Non-shaven FUE 2100+ grafts

Patients who desire follicular unit extraction (FUE) procedures due to the benefit of being able to wear their hair at a very short length do not always have to shave the hair in their recipient area.

This 37-year-old man had a 2000+ FUE session with Dr. Wesley in which a 0.8mm FUE punch was used. In this video montage, the patient can be seen before, during, and after his procedure.

Video of Female FUT Hairline Transformation (Carlos K. Wesley, M.D.)

One of our New Year's Resolutions is to include a bit more video footage within our before/after presentations. We'll kick off 2016 by presenting this female patient of Carlos K. Wesley, M.D. who underwent a follicular unit transplantation (FUT) with our team.

Carlos K. Wesley, M.D. (NYC) - 3000+ FUE Under a Magnified Lens

In the ongoing discussion pitting follicular unit extraction (FUE) versus follicular unit transplantation (FUT), one subtle and surprising point worth noting is that various investigations have demonstrated a slightly higher number of hairs per graft obtained during FUE harvests.

This video shows a young patient in his 20's after 3000+ grafts were transplanted by Dr. Carlos Wesley (NYC) using a hand-held, motorized FUE punch. Magnified images of the treated recipient area reveal growth of a significant number of transplanted 3-haired grafts after having been stored in the patient's platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and ACell prior to implantation.

Carlos K. Wesley, M.D. (NYC) - 2589 Curly Grafts

A 42-year-old male wanted to advance his receding hairline. The most important thing to him was a natural appearance after the procedure. In the accompanying video, he can be seen before and 17 months after his follicular unit transplantation (FUT) procedure with Dr. Wesley (NYC)

Dr. Carlos K. Wesley (NYC) - Young Male with Frontal HT and PRP (2036 FU)

A 25-year-old male wanted to slightly advance and add fullness to his hairline and frontal scalp without compromising the pre-existing hair in that area. A 2036 FU session with Carlos K. Wesley, M.D. (NYC) can be seen before, during, and 12-months later. The accompanying video also illustrates the overhead view of the young man's scalp one year after his platelet-rich plasma (PRP) - enriched follicular unit transplantation (FUT) session with Dr. Wesley.

Carlos K. Wesley, M.D. (NYC): Focused Mid Scalp on Young Male

This 34-year-old doctor wanted to add density to his thinning mid scalp. While he was bothered by the thinning on top of his head, the crown region (in back) didn't bother his as much.

A 2579 FU session of FUT with Dr. Wesley focused on his mid scalp. By creating a feathered "arc" along the back border of the pattern of transplantation and leaving a portion of his crown untreated, young patients continue to have a natural appearance even when the thinning portion of their crown expands over time.

The patient returned 12 months later for follow-up images and video of his new hairstyle.

Male | Caucasion | 2579 Grafts in 1 Session | FUT/Strip | Transplant

Carlos K. Wesley, M.D. (NYC): Hairline Advancement 40-year-old Male

This 40-year-old received 2460 grafts to address his receding hairline. His session with Dr. Carlos K. Wesley (NYC) included a number of DFUs (double-follicular units) tucked away behind his new hairline to provide more coverage and an improved facial framing.

He returned with a renewed self confidence about 9 and a half months later to display his new hairstyle!

Male | Caucasion | Class: 2A | 2460 Grafts in 1 Session | FUT/Strip | Transplant

Dr. Carlos K. Wesley: African-American Male (2200 FU)

This 35-year-old African-American male sought treatment for his rapidly-thinning scalp. He underwent a 2200-graft FUT hair transplant session with Dr. Carlos K. Wesley in NYC. The patient returned to the office about 11 months later wearing the same short hairstyle.

Male | Non-Caucasion | Class: 2 | 2200 Grafts in 1 Session | FUT/Strip | Transplant

Brown Hair Type VI MPB (4358 FU) - Carlos K. Wesley, M.D. (NYC)

A 48-year-old man with Type VI MPB underwent a session to the frontal half and mid scalp involving 4358 grafts. The accompanying video montage illustrates his transformation from before, during and about one year following the follicular unit transplantation (FUT) approach with Dr. Wesley.

Male | Caucasion | Class: 6 | 4358 Grafts in 1 Session | FUT/Strip | Transplant

Hairline Fullness - Dr. Carlos K. Wesley (NYC) 2326 grafts

Here is a 42-year-old hair restoration patient who wanted the fullness of his hairline back. The results of a 2326-graft follicular unit transplantation (FUT) hair transplant session with Dr. Wesley can be seen at 11 months after his surgery. The patient is ecstatic.
