Dr. Panine - Chicago HTC - 3,175 grafts 9 Months Post-Op

This 33 year old gentleman had a hair loss pattern similar to a class 4. He came to me with the hope of getting as much coverage as possible. His goal was to build up his hairline and add density to the frontal ? of the scalp. I explained to him that his expectations could not be met after one procedure. Rather, he will have a dramatic change after one procedure, but he still might want a 2nd procedure to add more density. After establishing his medical history and understanding the progression of his hair loss, I diagnosed his condition as Androgenetic Alopecia (male pattern baldness), ruling out any other possible dermatological or medical conditions which can cause hair loss. The patient’s goal was well suited to his needs and therefore I planned the surgery accordingly. I wanted to reconstruct a hairline that would be suitable for him now, but also something that will look good as he gets older. A total of 3,175 grafts were used. The break down was as follows: 1,209 single hair grafts and 1,966 two hair grafts. I used a significant amount of single hair follicular units which allowed me to create a very natural hairline. By doing this it will allow him to comb his hair without anyone detecting that he has had anything done. These are his results 9 months after his first procedure and there will continue to be more improvement over the next few months. The patient is extremely happy with his results.

Dr. Bhatti- FUE on a NW7 Patient

Today I would like to present the latest result from Dr Bhatti and his Team at Darling Buds Hair Restoration Center, India. This patient considers his appearance to be very important due to the profession he is in. He is a well known Director of various television and movie productions in India's thriving Arts and Entertainment industry. The challenge his case presented was that he was a full NW7 with only a light and low density remnant of hair across the top of his scalp. He did not want the limitations brought on by strip surgery and wanted to only consider FUE and for that he turned to Dr. Bhatti, based on his research.

I present to you a series of before and after photos for your review along with a final video that he graciously provided during one of the awards ceremonies that he has recently attended. He has also returned for addition work to address the crown.

Like Getting Blood from a Stone" | Dr. Blake Bloxham |1,800 Graft HT

One of my favorite "Feller-isms" -- and there are many to chose from -- is the phrase: "like getting blood from a stone." For those unfamiliar with this saying, it basically refers to the idea of trying to get "something from nothing" or extracting from a tough source that does not want to give. Like trying to get blood or water from a stone!

In the hair transplant field, it refers to the challenge of obtaining a good quantity of quality grafts from a stubborn or barren donor. And unfortunately, it often happens in patients with a large demand (bald area) and this poor donor supply.

And that's precisely the situation this patient found himself in. He's a man in his mid-50s with a NW VI hair loss pattern. At first glance, his donor looked pretty good; something that could sustain a large session to tackle his aggressive pattern.

On closer inspection, however, his density was well below average as was his laxity. Sometimes these patients are good candidates for an FUE approach, but he came to us seeking an FUT megasession and I also didn't think he was the best FUE candidate all around.

So I decided to steal out as much as I could via FUT. I explained the difficultly of the donor to him, and warned him that graft number would not be great. He was hoping for one of the big 4,000+ graft cases, but I told him he would likely be less than 2,000. I also told him the key in these "blood from a stone" cases is strategy. When used properly to maximize the cosmetic benefit, a small graft number can go a long way.

I was able to obtain 1,800 grafts (with a large strip that would normally provide me with 3,500 or 4,000 in a better density patient); I used these to reestablish his hairline, densely fill the frontal band, and taper the density in the mid-scalp.

He returned 10 months later, and was very pleased with the result! Huge benefit from a smaller graft number.
