Are Hair Transplants Always Permanent or Will I Eventually Go Bald Again?

6/21/2012 3:01:35 AM

Question:

I would like to chat with someone regarding a unique situation. I had a hair transplant nearly 7 years ago. Unfortunately, I have been losing my transplanted hair over the past 6 months. I would like to know if this is a problem that others have experienced.

Answer:

In the vast majority of cases, follicles harvested from the safe zone for transplantation will continue to grow for a lifetime. However, some men do experience thinning of the “permanent” zone. Thus, there can be no guarantees. Additionally, there are other medical conditions that can contribute to hair loss beyond androgenic alopecia (genetic balding).

If you are interested in learning if others have experienced similar hair loss, I highly recommend creating a discussion topic on our Hair Restoration Forum. Here you can benefit from the combined experience of our patient members as well as garner feedback from some of the world’s best hair restoration physicians.
