As a 30 Year Old Female with hair loss, what is the best Hair Replacement Solution?

Question:

I'm a 30 year old woman from Albania and have been experiencing hair loss since I was about 18 years old. In my country, specialized hair clinics don't exist so there are not too many hair loss solutions available. I'm interested in learning more about hair transplant methods such as hair replacement and FUE (follicular unit extraction). What is the difference between these? In the simplest of terms, could I have more hair?

Answer:

I know how frustrating hair loss can be. As upsetting as it can be for men, women seem to suffer even more emotionally from hair loss. Unfortunately, there is no cure for baldness to date though you may have some options depending on whether or not you are qualified. Non surgical treatments such as Rogaine (minoxidil) are available to women and may help prevent further hair loss and regrow hair. In most cases of regrowth, you will still never achieve normal hair density but it can improve your situation.

Hair replacement is a general term that can refer to surgical or non surgical hair restoration. Hair replacement systems (hairpieces) can be used to cover a balding scalp but does nothing to regrow hair. Many men and women with extensive baldness turn to hair replacement systems because there is little else they can do. They do require a good bit of maintenance and can be expensive. The good news is, many companies have worked hard in making them appear extremely natural. Another word for surgical hair replacement is hair transplantation. This is a surgical procedure of moving hair from the sides and back of the patient's head (the safe area that is resistant to DHT, the hormone responsible for genetic hair loss) and transplanting the hair into recipient sites made by the hair transplant surgeon in the balding areas. After 3 to 5 months, this hair starts to grow and by 1 year, it matures.

Hair transplantation really works and can be a viable option if you are qualified. Learn more about the differences between follicular unit hair transplantation (FUT) and Follicular Unit Excision (formerly Follicular Unit Extraction) (FUE).

Because physician selection is vital to ensuring you will receive state of the art hair transplantation, it is important to choose wisely.

Unfortunately, at this time, we do not currently recommend any quality ethical hair restoration physicians in Albania however, we do have a number of quality hair transplant surgeons in Europe. Closest to you would be Dr. Kulachi of Greece who is performing quality follicular unit hair transplantation and is recommended on the Hair Transplant Network. Also consider Dr. Feriduni, Dr. DeVroye, Dr. Bessam Farjo, and Dr. Nilofer Farjo who are all elite members of the Coalition of Independent Hair Restoration Physicians.

I recommend considering traveling at this time to ensure you receive a satisfactory hair transplant. After all, this IS a lifetime investment and getting it done right the first time far outweighs the inconvenience of traveling.

Once you select a qualified hair transplant surgeon, you can work with them to develop realistic hair restoration goals and work out a plan that is right for you.

I hope this helps.
