My Hair Loss Story

My hair loss started at 18.

Thankfully, although others noticed no one told me and I was too naive to realize my widening part was actually hair loss. Looking back I'm amazed I didn't see it. Ignorance really is bliss.

At 21 I saw a photo with the flash bouncing off the top of my head and the game was up. From that moment I knew I was going bald.

With just flunking out of college and being estranged from my parents I was in a very vulnerable place in my life and the realization of hair loss hit me like a ton of bricks.

Growing up I had no self-belief because encouragement, recognition and compliments were not forthcoming in my home environment. Instead I was criticized, put-down and humiliated. And although it may sound arrogant to say, the one thing I was certain about was that I was very handsome because the rest of the world always told me so.

I believed that my looks were really the only 'good' thing about me and my whole sense of personal strength, as meager as it was, came from that belief.

So when I realized I was going bald, it was like the only pillar supporting my fragile ego was crumbling and nothing could be done to stop the decay.

For years I fret over hair loss and in combination with my over-indulgence in dope smoking I finally sank into a depression which lasted maybe 2-years.

Ironically, I still had a lot of hair and was still a great looking guy - haha - ahh youth, it really is wasted on the young!

I was forced to face the reality that youthful good looks pass and no longer could I coast through life thinking that's all I need OR that's all I have to offer.

My rise from the ashes began with enrollment  into a mature-age high school at 26.

Fast-forward 12 years and I have a wife and son, I speak 3 languages, have a degree and a masters and am a self-made entrepreneur living all over the world.

AND ironically, I owe my new life in part to hair-loss because it left me no choice but to find and develop a deeper belief and power within myself.

How has my hair loss affected me?

Initially it really depressed me but eventually it forced me to grow up and get serious about what I was doing with my life

What hair loss treatments have worked best for me?

Had a hair transplant 4 months ago and started meds same time so too early to tell.

Am I happy with my hair transplant experience and the results?

Experience with Dr Hasson and staff was first rate. My skin was extra tight so advised to leave staples in for 3 weeks instead of regular 10 days which was uncomfortable.

What hair loss treatments would I recommend?

Start meds now if you still have hair

How has hair restoration surgery changed my life?

I already feel better even though I still don't have much hair

My general advice and suggestions.

Start meds now if you are a candidate and do your research before making any decisions. There are plenty of stories from guys on this forum that regret their decision to have a hair transplant because they wound up with a 2nd-rate surgeon.
