Procedure 1

Dr. Devroye

Steven - AKA - Le-meteque

Age: 66 | Bald Class: Bald Class 5 Email Me

I had one session and 3635 grafts. I must note that the old plugs which gave me the Barbie look in the back were expertly removed and reused. So part of the procedure was a "repair job".

Non-Surgical Treatments:

Minoxidil two weeks before the HT and I am planning on using it for a few months as support.

My Hair Loss Story

My hair loss story is just about the same as everybody else's. By the age of 22 I began to realize that my AFRO....and I really had one... was on its way out....and fast.

I was living in Connecticut at the time and it seemed the right place to pursue the "hair thing".

So in a panic move in 1980 I had my first HT. These were the Dark Ages of HT and although the surgeon tried really hard to change my mind about the transplant at such an early stage I went ahead anyway.

It was a successful HT by "those" standards and for a while it carried me.

28 years later the plugs started showing and I was feeling rather self concious especially when people standing over me asked questions like "why did you let someone use a Black and Decker on your head?"

So to come to the end of the story.

I have been living in Germany for the last 12 years and logically I looked for a doctor here first.

My very detailed research.....and I MEAN DETAILED....brought me to Brussels and Dr. Jean Devroye.

My first meeting with him was at his clinic and he explained to me the procedure as well as the results I could expect. He also took me in the next room and I saw first hand that actual planting. It looked really CLEAN and the patient very relaxed was watching a DVD.

Bottom line:

I made an appointment and on 9 December, 2008 I had my transplant.  I was convinced I was at the right place and in the right hands two different times during the operation.

The first time was when the skills of Dr and team were really obvious BUT what really did it for me was the degree of passion they showed for their work and ME, the patient.

Ray Charles with a scalpel and the two "planters" Marie and Marie-Pierre the perfect harmony.

How has my hair loss affected me?

Well, I didn't lose much sleep over it but the cosmetic effect was starting to bother me.

What hair loss treatments have worked best for me?

Am I happy with my hair transplant experience and the results?

I am really-really happy with the results. The initial wondering of how everything was going to come out has been replaced by "it is one of the best things" I have done for me. I would do it again in a flash.  Dr. Devroye  is a prince and the "lady planters" Ladies. A GREAT experience with GREAT results.

What hair loss treatments would I recommend?

Hair Transplant if you think you want it.

How has hair restoration surgery changed my life?

Originally I had written that it was too early to tell if and how HT changed my life.

Well, I can say now, eight months and 16 day later that IT HAS HAD AN IMPACT on how others see me, especially those who don't know about my HT.

So, YES, it has made me feel more confident and simply happier about the way I look.

My general advice and suggestions.

Do your research over and over again. DON'T TRUST ANYONE!!! There are too many shady charlatans preying on victims. I KNOW WHAT IT FEELS LIKE to want your hair back but so do these money grabbing characters. Go through the blogs and you will see some really bad results.

DON'T TRY TO SAVE MONEY at some "country" where medical  practice is equivalent to selling vegetables on the street.  BE WISE!
