My Hair Loss Story

My story sounds just like all of those who have posted on here before me. I was pretty young--in my early 20s--when I people started pointing out my hair loss. But I was a senior in high school when the school idiot came up to me, laughed in my face, and then pointed at my hairline and told me I was going bald.

Anyway, I first went to a dermatologist (Why? I don't know) when I was 22 or so to ask about Propecia. He told me he thought I was too young. So I went home disappointed, frustrated and completely emotional distraught. I knew I was losing my hair and the one thing I thought would help me was out of my hands.

Well, a couple of years went by and I finally went to my regular doctor (who is bald) and told him I wanted to go on Propecia. He asked me my reasons and finally agreed to give me a prescription. I have to say that I know Propecia has helped slow the process of hair loss, but it certainly hasn't stopped it. Especially in the front.

For years I've been watching my hair slowly recede and my confidence go with each hair I lost. I'm in my late 20s and am lucky enough to have a young face, so that helps. BUt I know the receding hairline was eventually going to catch up with me, as well as kill any confidence I had left.

About four years ago I did a little studying about hair transplants over the Internet and went to a consultation with a doctor, who really was just a plastic surgeon dabbling in hair transplants. I went in, he spoke to me for about 15 minutes, then threw me in with his financial person. The doctor never asked what I wanted, told me how many grafts he was going to put in or how much it would be. Then I sit down with this person and she tells me how much it's going to be and I wanted to start crying because there was no way I could afford it. To make it worse, when I said I needed to think about it, the person pretty much threatened that the price would go up if they didn't hear back from me in a few days. I didn't know they were in the business of scaring people into surgery.

Well, four years of research led me to Hasson and Wong. It took me about two years after learning about them to pull the trigger, but I finally did it. I went down to Los Angeles and had a consultation with Mike Ferko. He sat with me for awhile, but I was all ready sold before I got there. But speaking with him gave me some comfort about what the doctors could accomplish with me.

I was set up with Dr. Wong and had my transplant in September 2010. That's where the story really begins...
