My Hair Loss Story

I had started noticing hair loss first when I was in college, I still remember the day when I was my mother noticed there was some thinning of hair on the Crown area. I didn't care much about it and thought perhaps its only temporary and will go away after all there was so much stress for the Exams! :) Plus I could never see that portion of my head neither many people I met so really didn't care much.

However steadily the hair started receding in the front of head and that's when I started getting a little worried. I still was not very aware of any treatments or any medications that would help, plus didn't take it too seriously either as it only a some receding of hair, I still looked good and again no body noticed.. so a few years passed without much problem.

Even during my marriage, while I was around 30, hair looked good and only some thinning on the crown section. I did however by that time discovered Minoxidil which I used sparingly and not very regularly. It was only the last 5 years from age 33 onwards that i started to see my hair fall off at a rapid pace, literally changing my overall look, with the crown area getting larger and my hair line on the forehead already missing now.. Friends, relatives and everyone started noticing and commenting about the hair loss and my self-esteem started to take a nose dive..

So over the past 2 years, i had been deeply thinking but often unsure about getting a hair transplant done. However hearing the horror stories of people who had it done and how they suffered or looked unnatural made me incredibly nervous about having the procedure done.

It was only after starting my own research and seeing some wonderful results from Celebrities to normal people that I started to have some faith in it.

I am lucky that i bumped into the Hair Transplant Network site which really opened my eyes and gave me the knowledge about the latest procedures and research in this space as well as the excellent doctors that around the world are doing a wonderful job as well as the Not so Excellent doctors to stay away from.

The stories, before and after pictures shared by actual patients really was inspiring and the motivation force and gave me the confidence to choose the right doctor for me and to go ahead with the game changing event in my life... That's when I decided, its time...

Earlier I was thinking of going to Canada to one of the of the best surgeons Hasson & Wong Clinic. However I know it was too far away and would be rather costly as well. However I didnt want to compromise on quality over money. That's when after further researching I found the excellent results of Dr. Damkerng Pathomvanich on the hair restoration network site and started researching his work further as well as his patient reviews. I had a planned trip with friends last Nov 2010 so decided I will go see Dr Path for consultation. After i visited his clinic and met his professional staff and their honest and clear observation/feedback on the number of grafts needed and what realistically can be achieved, I decided that I will have it done with Dr Path.

I was told that I needed around 4000 Grafts and they could do in 1 mega session. My Scalp laxity was good and they there confident to get that many grafts and be able to give me a good coverage all over.

So the big day was on April 12th 2011 when I actually had my surgery with Dr Path and could not have been more satisfied so far with the work that has been done. very clean very professionally done, but the doner scar suturing as well as hair placement.

How has my hair loss affected me?

Negatively ofcourse, it steadily eats away at your confidence, self perception and makes you feel older than you actually are and perhaps less desireable.

What hair loss treatments have worked best for me?

None really, I had used the minoxidil 5% for many years, but still the hair kept falling and hair line kept receding..

Am I happy with my hair transplant experience and the results?

Yes, absolutely satisfied so far, however its too early to tell the results but am confident it will come along just fine. The work done by Dr Path and his team was exceptional, very clean, painless and professional. Very little swelling if any and thankfully no side affects or any serious issues either in doner or the recepient area. Happy so far, 2 weeks after surgery, and no one could tell in the office that i had any surgery, very nicely executed work by the team!

What hair loss treatments would I recommend?

there are only 2 really, the Regain Minoxidil 5% and Propecia are the only 2 know treatments to stop hairloss, however its affects will vary among people.

How has hair restoration surgery changed my life?

Well, certainly taken the first positive step to get it done and am happy about my decision.

Now is the waiting game, so am hoping that it does affect my life positively once the real progress showing itself over the next 7 to 8 months time.

My general advice and suggestions.

Absolutely do you research over several months before considering Surgery and DO NOT compromise on quality over money. This is life changing treatment and you want to be in the best hands when its done! Good luck!
