My Hair Loss Story
I started losing hair quite at an early age, when I was sixteen. At the beginning I was not particularly worried, because there was not, to my knowledge, a baldness pattern in my family.
After some time, I started to realise that the hair loss was not a temporary accident but a more or less constant pattern; still, I was not paying particular attention to it.
How has my hair loss affected me?
I started losing hair quite at an early age, when I was sixteen. At the beginning I was not particularly worried, because there was not, to my knowledge, a baldness pattern in my family: I had the clear image of my grandfather, over eighty, with a marvellous white hair full head. At the beginning, and for several months, I was attributing my hair loss to some form of fatigue or stress.
After some time, I started to realise that the hair loss was not a temporary accident but a more or less constant pattern; still, I was not paying particular attention to it, because it was taking place at very slow speed. Since, before it started, I used to have many hairs, with a lot of volume, nothing showed for at least 4-5 years. From the age of about 22, a certain thinning started to appear and, as years were passing, it become more and more evident, with a progression always quite slow but constant.
What hair loss treatments have worked best for me?
I have to say that the thinning was never a factor of real discomfort for me, especially because I tended to consider it as a fact of life, something that, if it happens, you cannot do anything about. In the early stage, I hade tried to counter it by taking vitamins and using lotions, without any effect. Therefore, I was accepting it as a reality, and it did not have any negative consequences on my social, nor on my professional life.
Am I happy with my hair transplant experience and the results?
However, as years were passing and I was over thirty, I started to be annoyed by a certain mismatch between my head and my body. Because I have always been a sportsman, I am in a rather good shape and my body seems somehow younger than my age. On the other hand, because of the growing baldness, my head and my face as a whole seemed older. I was a bit fed up with this fact and to a certain extent unpleased about my image as I could see it in the mirror or in some pictures.
How has hair restoration surgery changed my life?
I have to say that I learnt about Dr. Devroye by chance. In the state of mind that I tried to describe above, I started to surf on internet. I compared several specialised sites, and I found interesting Dr. Devroye’s one, mainly for the transparency of the information provided. Hence, I asked for a rendezvous. It was mostly for curiosity, I did not have any precise plan.
Dr. Devroye made me a very good impression since the beginning. It was a mix of professionalism and empathy. No payment for the visit, no psychological pressure for an operation. Only some good advice, in a nice atmosphere. I was very favourably impressed, therefore, after a while, I decided to try.
At the age of 41 I had two surgeries, at ten months of distance from one another. Everything went well. The environment was friendly and professional. I could feel that Dr. Devroye and his staff were using lot of attention and care. Every time the surgery lasted for almost the whole day. I was clearly a bit tired, but I always felt taken care of, and therefore quite relaxed.
Each time, at the end of the surgery, I received, also in writing, advice for the post-operation period. The day after the surgery, Dr. Devroye phoned me to know how I was feeling. I followed the post-surgery instructions as scrupulously as possible.
My general advice and suggestions.
I am very satisfied with the results. My look has really changed, to the better. No more mismatch between head/ face and body. Although I had never felt the thinning as a real problem, there is no doubt that I feel much better now. Only “problem” is that I had to throw away a number of old pictures of mine, as I could no more recognise that old-looking man, that is me before. Useless to say, it is a “problem” that has always put me in a very good mood.
My advice to people in a similar situation as mine: think with your head. Don’t take a decision because of others, do it for yourself. And, if you consider undertaking surgery, contact Dr. Devroye.
