Procedure 1

Dr. Pathomvanich

Bald Class: Bald Class I Email Me

I consulted Dr Damkerng Pathomvanich from the DHT Clinic in Bangkok. He was the one and only doctor I have consulted, after 2 months of online research and extensive googling/ hair transplant network-ing.

Dr Path's team estimated I would need 900 grafts to cover my 'patch' as I not-so-fondly refer to it. I did the surgery on 9 March 2011. They ended up using 981 grafts, a combi of 1, 2 and 3 hair follicles. Luckily the hair at the back of my head is very dense and he was pleased that the quality of donor hair was thick and good. Majority of the grafts were 2 and 3 hair follicles. Now begins the process of tracking my progress and waiting and watching.

Having lived with my Patch for so many years now, I'm not impatient to see the progress and neither am I hoping for a quick perfect fix. At this point, i think of any growth that will happen as a nice benefit that'll be very welcomed!

Non-Surgical Treatments:

Years of hair loss shampoos (regaine/rogaine), sprays/creams/ointments/tonics (neril, regaine, minoxidil), herbal 'treatments, vitamins, pills etc. And when all else failed, brown eyeshadow dabbed to cover my Patch when I had the "i dont give a damn i'm going to comb my hair back today!" days. And I'd enter a lift a couple of hours later and see that the eyeshadow had disappeared and there it was again, the return of the evil Patch.

My Hair Loss Story

I had incredibly long hair for 20+ years, and had to keep it tied up in a tight bun/pony tail most of the time. Literally 24-7 because it was impossible to let down! Finally I cut it at the age of 25. But the years of traction alopecia left a big thinning 'Patch' at the front, which never improved. I know its nowhere near as bad as what many people have had to endure, but being a girl its been so much worse (at least i think it has...) and really chips at the self confidence.

After years of being unable to comb my hair back, wear a handband or make a centre parting, or do anything other than a side parting, i decided i'd had enough! The side part was now beginning to thin because I'd rocked it way too much the past 10+ yrs. Time to fix the problem that i'd been living with for too long, and that i'd for some reason started moaning about but co-existing with, rather than fixing.

How has my hair loss affected me?

Years of frustration, annoyance and downright anger when I cant do something as simple as comb my hair back. And i've lived with this for most of my life, a horribly depressing feeling when you're a female below 30!

What hair loss treatments have worked best for me?

Hair transplants.

Am I happy with my hair transplant experience and the results?

Just did it yesterday but am pleased with the procedure itself and the results so far.

What hair loss treatments would I recommend?

Only hair transplants. Semi-permanent/temporary 'fixes' are not really fixes at the end of the day.

How has hair restoration surgery changed my life?

Psychologically I feel a boost already but now lets see the results!
