Bald Class: Email Me
I have had 1 session with approximately 1,200 grafts by Dr Damkerng Pathomvanich.
Rogaine (started when I was 19. stopped before I was 21. started again before I was 22 and then stopped within 6 months).
Propecia (used it the same periods as I was using rogaine, however I am still using it to this day. I am using 1/2 a pill per week because I was told by a HT surgeon in Australia that the drug stays in your system for 2-3 days anyway.)
Leimo (used it for about 1.5 years. I don't think it did anything, however my situation was unusual because rogaine had irritated my scalp and made my hair fall out and therefore the leimo treatments may have had no effect.)
My Hair Loss Story
I have elaborated on my story in more detail on my profile on the hairtransplantnetwork website. Basically I started using rogaine and then when I stopped my hair started falling out in places where rogaine wasn't even used. My hair condition was 100% worse than before I started using rogaine because now my hairline was very thin and was falling out in odd patches which meant I had to style my hair in a particular way every single day just to hide it. It also meant I couldn't go swimming, I had to run to the shower each morning before I was seen in my pre-combover hairstyle, and it also made me absolutely hate the wind!!!.
Anyway I had my hair transplant 6 days ago now and I can already see how it is going to turn out and I am just so relieved and happy that I won't have to worry about my hair anymore. The one thing I have learnt from this whole experience is to stop being so self conscious all the time and don't let little things (such as a slightly receding hair line) stress you out too much.
How has my hair loss affected me?
I wore a hat NONSTOP for about 1.5 years because of my hair loss. The only reason I stopped is because I went to the hairdresser and she cut may hair too short. I guess I thought the had didn't suit me with such short hair so I styled it with some wax and it actually looked okay. I walked out the back and had a few drinks with my family and they were all relieved that I had actually taken my hat off. At one point my brother actually through my hat in the fire because he was pissed off that I never took it off. I was angry with him then but I think he knew something was wrong and later that month I told him and the people I was living with my situation. Everyone was obviously very supportive and I felt very relieved.
What hair loss treatments have worked best for me?
NONE. even propecia doesn't seem to be doing anything. My hair is still falling out at a steady rate, I believe it is from the rogaine.
Am I happy with my hair transplant experience and the results?
I am extremely happy with my hair transplant experience so far. I am only 6 days in so I can't comment on the results just yet.
What hair loss treatments would I recommend?
I guess I would recommend rogaine because I have seen my cousin's hair thicken up by about 500%. HOWEVER if you have any itching, redness or any type of alergy stop using it, use a smaller dose, and no one told me but you can actually get minoxodil without the chemical that causes the redness and itchiness. Also remember that once you begin using it you can't stop. You will have to spends thousands every single year on the product, you will have to go through the process of applying it every single day for the rest of your life, and also your hair will be oily and your scalp will get flaky. Honestly think hard about what your best option is going to be, for me the choice was simple, a hair transplant is permanent, take a couple of hours to have the procedure complete and depending on your age you could save up to 70-80 thousand over your lifetime.
How has hair restoration surgery changed my life?
I am already feeling better about the weeks to come, my future, and my life in general.
My general advice and suggestions.
Think hard about using rogaine before use. Ask any of your friends that look like they are going bald if they are using it. talk to people and ask them what they have used and what they intend to do in the future. Try to get different perspectives of your situation rather than rushing into anything.
