My Hair Loss Story

I've perused this site for years and it's been food for my soul.  My goal is to share my story in entertaining and informative way so that others can feel like I did reading these blogs - comforted and optimistic.  I'll also promise to take all those shots that you're interested in - front, back, side, top... and they won't be fuzzy (sorry, a pet peeve of mine!)  So if you're interested, please read on and join me in my journey... Speaking of my journey, it'll probably began in my junior year of college when someone first noticed my thinning crown.  It was probably noticable for a while before that, but that was when someone finally joked me about it.  I considered shaving down, but I'm very fair skinned and I don't have one of those head shapes that's very conducive to shaving (my skull is about as close to a perfect sphere as you can get).  There are some of you out there that can actually pull thinning/balding off - maybe you have darker skin, maybe you have a better head shape, maybe you've always kept it so short that noone would know the difference.  Unfortunatetly, I'm not one of those guys.  :-(

What hair loss treatments have worked best for me?

When I was in my early 20's, I tried rogaine.  My scalp was too sensitive for it, so I gave it up.  In my late 20s, I started on Propecia.  Seemed to work well enough, but my wife and I wanted kids and I didn't want to risk anything so I went off it a year beforehand.  Fast forward a few years and I'm now using proscar (1/4 tablet daily).  Can't tell yet, but in theory it should work.  ;-)

My general advice and suggestions.

If you're looking for a transplant, go to Dr. Wong in Vancouver, Canada.  He's the absolute nicest person you'll meet, and probably one of the best HT docs in the world (just look at his results).
