My Hair Loss Story
I was debating on whether or not to put my story out there but I have found reading others stories have helped me a great deal so here goes. My hair loss started when I was about 20. I started to notice that I was getting a widows peak. All of my life I have had very thick full hair. My father had a widow’s peak but still had some pretty good hair. I was really concerned about my hair so I had a transplant surgery in 1998. The surgery went well and I was pretty happy. Then I started to lose more hair so in 2000 I went to Hair Club for Men. They call it a "system" but it's really a hair piece. This was not a good experience for me. First it was pretty expensive to get the initial system. They told me I was getting a deal because I was getting two systems for the price of one. I thought this sounded good, so I signed on the line. When I went to have the system installed, they told me they were going to shave my head so the system would attach better. I was not told this in the beginning but agreed. Once the system was glued to my shaved head they said "now let’s talk about maintenance options". The cheapest one was about $250 per month. I was not told any of this beforehand but now I was stuck. It was a mess. I waited a month for my hair to grow and had them remove their system. I wore a baseball cap for about another month and had a very short haircut to even it all out. In 2002 I went back for another hair transplant surgery. This time he added to the front and crown. My donor scar turned out to be pretty big and I have to tell anyone that cuts my hair to be careful of the scar or they will cut my hair too short and expose the scar. I have lost some feeling in my head but it's not too bad. I didn't see anyone else comment on a loss of feeling.
I have continued on losing hair and it's very thin now. The only hair that remains is the hair that was transplanted. The line of my non transplanted hair has stayed consistent for a while now. Last year I decided to go back and have my hair fixed. I did quite a bit of research and found three doctors that I really like. Once stood out as being the best. I chose Dr. Scott Alexander. He is in Phoenix AZ and this is about a 4 hour flight for me to go out there but I want great results. My surgery is scheduled for April 20th, just a couple days away. I'm very excited to have this done and start seeing the results. I will post pictures and details as I go. Thanks for all those who have posted before.
How has my hair loss affected me?
Affects how I feel others view me. Makes me shy and timid. I don’t like the way my hair looks.
What hair loss treatments have worked best for me?
Am I happy with my hair transplant experience and the results?
Sort of. They were small and a long time ago. I'm looking for much improvement this time.
