EE HairAge: 53 | Bald Class: Email Me I'm scheduled to get a hair transplant with Dr. Ron Shapiro. I'm excited about this. After interviewing 4 other qualified and well known surgeons, I've settled on Shapiro Medical. In my initial consultation, both Matt and Dr. Shapiro were very genuine, answered all my questions and there was absolutely no hard sell whatsoever. I can't wait for April to get here.
Well April is here and yes I had my surgery with Dr. Shapiro. Everything went great. OUTSTANDING staff and the Dr. listened to exactly what I wanted done (very conservative, not too low of a hairline and fill in the front third of the hairline). The surgery was really a breeze. Everyone there made sure I was comfortable throughout the entire day. I'm looking forward to the next 8 months to see how this turns out. I told the Dr. to shave the front of my head so that he can see exactly where to place the FU's between exissting hairs. Looks pretty funny right now but that's ok. I can't say enough about SMG and the entire staff. Top notch when it comes to HT Surgery!
Total grafts 2100UPDATE!!!Well it's been a little over a year now since I had my procedure at Shapiro Medical Group. I am happy to report that the results are nothing less than phenomenal, natural and completely UNDETECTABLE. I flew all over the U.S. and interviewed a number of HT surgeons. Cost was never an issue in my selection. My sole decision factors were: EXPERIENCE, QUALITY AND MOST IMPORTANTLY "ARTISTRY". In my opinion the very best of the best surgeons in this area are fairly similar in technique. The support staff is also CRITICAL. How long has each technician been employed, trained, etc. All of these considerations were important to me, but when it came down to making the final decision it was based on meeting with Dr. Ron Shapiro and spending time with him, and the interaction of what I was looking for. He listened INTENTLY! He is a soft spoken guy, very nice, and was genuinely listening to my concerns and desires of the final outcome. In my search, I don't believe there is another HT surgeon as good as Dr. Ron in creating a natural hairline and that is pure artistry (completely seperate from being a great surgeon). He showed me pictures of natural hairlines, and discussed with me what elements go into creating one.
I have seen thousands of pictures and have had discussions with hundreds of patients. I can spot a poor HT a mile away, and a hair piece from two miles away! I was extremely concerned with the outcome being undetectable and natural. Dr. Ron far surpassed my expectations (and I'm probably the pickiest person on earth when it comes to my hair).
Finally, I think it's important to say this...I said earlier cost was never the consideration. It's my only face and the last thing I wanted was a "bargain" and have to stare at a hairline that looked aweful. That said, SMG's pricing was in line with the top HT surgeons. I am writing this blog because I know how stressful it can be if you're picky like me. You want to make the right decision and have as much information as possible. I don't get paid a penny from SMG for this endorsement, they simply deserve a solid endorsement for doing such a great job. I will even take it a step further...if you are on the West Coast and want to meet me for a cup of coffee and take a look at the final result, send me an email.p.s. Everyone at SMG was great to deal with and made this process incredibly easy!
Currently taking propecia once a day and rogaine foam twice a day.
My Hair Loss StoryI started losing my hair at age 35. First, I noticed it was thinning on top and then I noticed my hairline was quickly receding. While it's not horrible for my age, I know it will only get worse, and I'm tired of placing individual hairs over my temporal regions.
How has my hair loss affected me?
It's not a huge deal, but friends do rib me about my "fivehead" (as opposed to forehead).
ONE YEAR POST SURGERY - I was watching a video of me that is 4 years old and I think I look about 15 years younger now!
What hair loss treatments have worked best for me?
Rogaine and propecia work great, but not in the temporal area...or at least after 8 months.
Am I happy with my hair transplant experience and the results?
I couldn't be happier. It's the best choice I've made in my life.
What hair loss treatments would I recommend?
START EARLY with Propecia!!!
How has hair restoration surgery changed my life?
About 5 months after my HT surgery I was approached to do some print ads, which lead me to television commercials!
My general advice and suggestions.
Do your research and don't look for bargains. This is the only face you will ever have and you look at it every morning in the mirror when you start your day. Make the right decision and you'll never regret it.
