RandyAge: 61 | Bald Class: Email Me I began to research the tranplants option extensively about 2.5 years ago. I have heard some really bad stories so I did not want to be a part of that statistic. I researched on the internet, by phone, road trips and even flew to visit with some doctors who were supposed to be the best. I compared cost, the type of procedure they used, and many other things. Fortunately for me, I found the right doctor just a short 3 hour drive away. After meeting with him and talking with some of his previous clients, I knew he was the one for me. The doctor I selected was Dr. Jerry Cooley of Carolina Dermatology Haircenter in Charlotte, NC. I have had two procedures so far. The first was in October of 2006 and the second in November of 2007. I plan to have one more minor "fill-in" procedure; although if I didn't have another fill-in procedure, I would be very happy with my results. I had about 5,050 grafts done in the two procedures combined. My hair is very fine which is a disadvantage for me but even with the fine hair, my results are great. As you will see when you view my before and after photos, my hair line was completely gone from the repeated removal of tape and adhesive from the hair system after 15 years. My experience with Dr. Cooley and his staff was outstanding. The surgery day was comfortable and exceeded my expectation. I was well informed and well taken care of throughout the procedure and afterwards. I highly, highly recommend these folks and I did my homework. Take a look at my photos. I had just had a haircut and really didn't have my hair styled to look its best but as you can see, I have a full head of hair now. It looks and feels great! I can't say enough about it. It was the best money I have ever spent. I would be happy to share additional information if I can be of help to anyone.
I started wearing a hair system (hair piece) in my early 30's before my hair loss was too bad so it would not be such a drastic transistion. I did this for about 15 years. Like hair transplants, hair systems got better through the years, but nothing compares to having your own hair. The hair system served it's purpose well but I grew really tired of it and want other options. I tried a prescription treatment briefly early on, perhaps not long enough to help but it was indicated for the crown only and my hair loss exceeded that area. If you are not a candidate for a hair transplant for whatever reason, the hair system is a good option if you use the right company to purchase and service your system. This crucial for it to look natural. I would be happy to share more information on this if anyone is interested.
My Hair Loss StoryI started losing my hair in my early 30's. That was 20 years ago. Hair transplant options were not that good back then. I was too young to lose my hair and I was beginning to look older than I actually was because of the hair loss.
