ErdoganFUE's - Profile page August 2016 - 5518 FUE grafts by Dr. Koray Erdogan (Istanbul/ASMED) Norwood V - Front and Mid Scalp - Caucasian American - Pre-Op Unshaved

I have been losing hair since 18.  Used Minoxidil and proscar 1.25 mg over the
years with uncertain effects (may have slowed process).  Tried dustasteride and quit shortly after due
to noticeable side effects.  Finally gave
up altogether and stopped all treatments, using only Dermmatch concealer for
the final few years to create illusion of dense hair with receding hairline
even though I was Norwood V-ish.
Dermmatch is messy, gets on pillow cases, and is not a long term
solution.  So at 37, after
living half of my life with hair loss, and having had my hair loss stabilized, the
money, time and fortuity to be able to travel to Turkey to have a top notch FUE
surgeon Dr. Koray Erdogan perform the procedure, I took the plunge.  It was important for me not to get a linear scar as I have
always wanted to option to be able to buzz my hair down if needed.  I work out and think I look good with a shaved /buzzed head, so I have no desire to have to explain a
big scar if I did end up going that route and lost it all. In my opinion FUE
has advanced to the point where I do not see a clear benefit of doing the strip
method, but that's just me.I did some research on several forums over the years and
liked the results of Dr. Koray Erdogan in Turkey, noting he was one of the few
FUE doctors recommended on this website.
I sent pics in July 2016 and booked for August 15 and 16, 2016 in
Istanbul.   I had already booked a
two-week vacation in Europe before deciding to do this, so I asked the clinic
if they could fit me in on August 15 and 16 and thankfully they were able
to!  I sent pics and was quoted at
4000-4500 grafts, but I had seen results of him performing up to 6,000 in two
days (on the clinic anesthesiologist, in fact!) and due to the travel distance
and knowing that I would need to return for a second procedure, I knew that I
would request the maximum amount of grafts that Dr. Erdogan could do after
doing my in person assessment. I wired 1000 EUR in advance to reserve my two
day procedure about one month before, in mid-July.  You take the remainder over with you in cash,
which I will be honest created a bit of a pain for me given that I was doing a
two week European vacation prior to going to Turkey. I ended up calling around
LA and negotiating the best exchange rate for Euros given than I was purchasing
about $15k at once, and got a good rate.
I used a money belt during my vacation, kept the money on me in the belt
most of the time, and hid the money in the lining of my suitcase at others (I don’t
trust hotel safes)  In the end, it all
got to Turkey, and I did not declare it at any point during my trip (leaving
US, entering/leaving Europe, entering Turkey). Note: the coup in Istanbul
happened a couple days after this, causing me to of course be nervous about the
situation over there.  However the
patient advocates were responsive and caring and assured me I would be taken
care of.  During my trip, I spent most of
the time in the hotel or the clinic, however when interacting with the locals
at restaurants or on the street, everyone was kind and helpful, although they
don't speak much English.  I never felt
unsafe.
