Can I Get a Hair Transplant at 18 Years Old?

If needed, could an 18 year old receive a hair transplant?

For starters, a hair transplant is never “needed” even though you may really want it. While age isn’t the only factor for determining hair transplant candidates, at 18, I'd say you are too young to consider surgical hair restoration. Without knowing how much hair loss you’ve already experienced, family history of hair loss, etc. it’s hard to advise you further.

Genes are the number one cause of balding in both men and women worldwide. That said, I’d advise speaking to a physician to determine first if your hair loss is genetic (androgenic alopecia). If it is, I’d advise considering using Propecia (finasteride) and Rogaine (minoxidil) for a couple of years to see if they work for you. They’re both typically pretty good at slowing down, stopping, and even reversing the effects of male pattern baldness. Be sure to speak to your physician about these drugs including the benefits, limitations, and possibility of side effects.
