Can My Sister Donate Hair for My Hair Transplant Surgery?

6/27/2012 5:38:46 AM

Question:

I am a balding female considering hair restoration surgery. Is it possible to use my sister's hair follicles for my hair transplant?

Answer:

Hair transplantation between siblings only works with identical twins. Any other donor would require the recipient to take the same harsh and dangerous anti-rejection drugs used in all organ transplants. Given that hair loss is not life-threatening, the risks of taking these drugs far outweigh the benefits of hair growth.
