Can My Sister Donate Hair for My Hair Transplant Surgery?

6/27/2012 5:38:46 AM

I am a balding female considering hair restoration surgery. Is it possible to use my sister's hair follicles for my hair transplant?

Hair transplantation between siblings only works with identical twins. Any other donor would require the recipient to take the same harsh and dangerous anti-rejection drugs used in all organ transplants. Given that hair loss is not life-threatening, the risks of taking these drugs far outweigh the benefits of hair growth.

To learn more about the potential for transplanting hair between identical twins see the article, Revolutionary Hair Transplant (Donor Hair Taken From Twin) Restores Hair to Teenage Cancer Survivor: Dr. Glenn Charles.
