Did I Lose Grafts 6 Days after My Hair Transplant?

About 6 or 7 days after my hair transplant surgery some scabs were really loose so I pulled them out. The question is, how can you tell if you pulled the graft out with the scab or just the hair follicle? How big is the graft and is there always bleeding associated with a lost graft?

Hair restoration physicians generally agree that follicular unit grafts are fully anchored by 10 days after hair transplant surgery. However, that is an estimate and it is surely possible that some are fixed in place a couple of days earlier. In my opinion, if you saw no bleeding, your grafts are just fine. However, it is always best to err on the side of caution and I recommend that you continue to baby your scalp for up to two weeks to avoid any hair loss.

You will know a lost graft when you see it. It will have quite a bit of tissue at the end and may contain more than one follicle. I wouldn’t worry. One or two lost grafts will have little impact on your final outcome but play it safe just the same.
