Question:
How many hair transplants via the strip
harvesting (follicular unit hair transplant) method can one have in a
lifetime? Is there a limit?
Answer:
Under normal circumstances, a hair transplant surgeon will
take a single strip per procedure. The width and length of this strip is
determined by the number of grafts you and your hair restoration physician previously agreed upon
and is limited by physical characteristics like scalp laxity.
The number of strip procedures that a given patient can
undergo also varies from patient to patient and is dependent upon factors
including, future balding, hair density and scalp laxity. Our managing publisher Bill has had 4 strip hair transplants. You can view his results here.
Remaining scalp laxity and donor/recipient area scarring may eventually
limit the number of procedures one can undergo but, ultimately, many
patients undergo multiple strip harvesting procedures in order to meet their
goals.
