I have a hair loss problem and want a hair transplant. Can you tell me what would be the total expense? How many times do I have to get treated?
Unfortunately, the answer isn't as cut and dry as you would like it to be. Below I will try to explain the variables that have to be considered in order to determine your cost and number of required procedures.
The cost of a hair transplant will depend on a number of things.
- Cost will vary between hair restoration clinics. Some charge per follicular unit graft while other charge a flat session fee.
- The type of procedure you undergo: follicular unit transplantation (FUT) or follicular unit extraction (FUE)
- The number of follicular unit grafts and number of sessions required to meet your hair restoration goals. Feel free to use our animated graft calculator to determine approximately how many grafts you will need to restore your hair.
The number of grafts/hairs needed to cover your scalp will depend on your degree of hair loss and your hair characteristics. The number of sessions you will need will depend on the total number of grafts/hairs you will need, your scalp elasticity (strip surgery only), your donor hair density, and the experience/skill/philosophy of the physician.
Variations exist between each clinic however, on the average; you'll probably be paying between $4 to $8 for follicular unit transplantation and $6-$10 for follicular unit extraction.
