How Soon Can I Color the Hair in the Donor Area after a Hair Transplant?

There seems to be a lot of information on the recipient area regarding styling, dying or applying products. I had FUE 5 days ago and everything is healing well. I want to dye the hair in the donor area after 10 days when I go back to work as this area has a lot of gray hair and does not match the top of my head. I will leave the top of my head alone for a few weeks but can I dye the hair in the donor area 10 days post-op?

The main concern in applying hair dye to the donor area after a hair transplant is irritation. With follicular unit excision (formerly known as follicular unit extraction) (FUE), it is reasonable to expect that the extraction sites should be well healed at 10 days post-op. However, everyone heals differently and at differing rates.

I recommend consulting with your hair restoration physician before applying color to your donor area. You may also want to consider using a dye for sensitive skin. These can often be found where natural products are sold.
