Is Early Shedding after Hair Transplant Surgery a Bad Sign?

3/12/2014 6:06:26 AM

Question:

I underwent a follicular unit excision (formerly known as follicular unit extraction) (FUE) hair transplant 8 days ago and already have noticed quite a lot of hairs being shed. Is this normal so early? Also, should I expect initial hair growth before shedding starts?

Answer:

It’s not out of the ordinary to experience shedding of the grafts at this early stage. In some cases, a portion of the grafts do not shed at all but, instead, continue to grow. There is really no way to predict what your experience will be but don’t worry. Either scenario can result in a successful hair restoration surgery.
