How permanent is transplant surgery?

Hair transplant surgeons harvest donor hair from the “permanent” zone at the sides and back of the head. In the vast majority of man with androgenic alopecia, this hair lasts a lifetime even in the most advanced cases of hair loss. When harvested and transplanted to the bald recipient area, these hairs swill continue to grow. Thus, hair transplants are permanent.

However, because hair loss is progressive, pre-existing hair will likely continue to fall out creating the need for subsequent procedures over time. For this reason, it’s important that male patients stabilize their balding with the medical hair loss treatments Propecia (finasteride)> and/or Rogaine (minoxidil) to prolong their results and reduce the need to future hair restoration surgery.
