Can a Teenager have a Hair Transplant?

9/17/2010 2:51:24 AM

Question:

I am 17 years old and losing my hair. I can already tell where my baldness pattern is going to be. It's very bad and I would like to know about hair transplants. I know you're going to tell me I'm too young but it's very noticable at my age. Please help. I'm too young for this.

Answer:

You are correct in assuming that, at your age, you are most likely not a candidate for hair restoration surgery. I recommend that you first see a dermatologist to determine the nature of your balding. You may benefit from non-surgical treatments such as Rogaine (minoxidil) and Propecia (finasteride). Propecia is normally not prescribed for those under the age of 18 but it can’t hurt to discuss it with your doctor.
