About

I've always had a high hairline which made me appear to have a large forehead. For the past 4 years, my hair has been slowly receding. It's receded about 1 inch in the hairline and about 2 inches in the temples. Thus, my already high hairline now looks even higher. So now I'm going to do something about it...

Bald Class

Bald class 3

Norwood class 3

The earliest stage of male hair loss. It is characterized by a deepening temporal recession.

Due to my already high hairline, it's made my forehead look even bigger and disproportionate. Even though it's only receded an inch, it looks like much more... Thus, I appear to be balding as opposed to simply having a mature hairline.

FUT at True & Dorin.

I went from a clear Norwood 3 down to a Norwood 1 in less than two years. I now have the same hairline at age 30 that I had at age 20 and it looks great. It's given me a much more youthful appearance as well as a nice, solid frame to my face.

Yes, I'm very happy with my expereince so far. It's restored the hairline of my youth and improved my overall appearance. Also, it's give me many more styling options with my hair.

FUT by True and Dorin.

It just looks a lot better now. I no longer have a widow's peak. I can comb my hair back if I wish. It looks good when I get out of the shower or after swimming. On windy days or while riding my bike, I don't have to worry about a large segment of my forehead being exposed and revealing my hair loss.

It is essential to do a lot of research before taking the plunge. You must have realistic expectations, be aware of the risks, understand the anxiety caused by anticipation of your result and, most importantly, choose a quality physician.

Research involves going to several in person consultations, meeting plenty of HT patients in person, speaking to them on the phone and asking lots questions.

The online forums are essential too, but do not fixate on any single site as they all have different theories and philosophies and membership bases. You will find certain docs heavily promoted on some sites while never mentioned on others. This is why it's important for you to build relationships and get to know actual patients which can be done via email.

HT #3 Here are the before and after photos from my third HT. This time around, I opted for 565 FUE. It was a painless procedure and the healing and down time were negligible. I mean, I could have done this on my lunch break. No pain meds afterwards either, apart from a day or two of Advil.

HT #2: 10 Month Update Sides My temple peaks are looking just great. They're well defined and clearly delineated. For the first time in my life, I feel comfortable in public wearing my hair combed back, which I do with increasing frequency. My right and left temples have filled in very well and the hair lays very naturally and is easy to manage. There is essentially no difference in texture or lay between my native hair and the transplanted hair.

HT #2: 10 Month Update Front Here I am at 10 months post-op from my second FUT. It's coming along well and I'm very pleased with the result so far. Most of my problem areas have been corrected. The only part that continues to bedevil me is a circular area in the immediate center of the hairline, which is still a little sparse. It doesn't look bad or anything, but it's not as dense as the rest. Therefore, I've opted to return to Dr. Dorin for a third hair transplant to address this small area and to further refine the hairline. For my next procedure, I will undergo a small FUE session of approximately 250-500 grafts FUE. It's really more of a touch up, I don't really need it, but I do want it.

HT #2: Scar Update Tricophytic closure was used for my second hair transplant. A lot of hair has already started to grow through the scar. However, it's still looking a little red for 10 months post-op. Compare to my first HT scar update which used a standard closure.

HT #2: 6 Month Update Here I am at 6 months post-op. Things are coming along nicely. I'm quite pleased with my new hairline and temple peaks and points. The new hairs are still immature, but it's clear that I had a good yield and I'm sure that in due time, they will mature nicely.  Further, my scar is looking great. It's paper thin and barely noticeable.

Crown & Midsection Update The following photos were taken almost 2 years apart from each other: August, 2010 to June, 2012. I cannot see a difference in density or lay, nor can I feel any difference when I run my hands through my hair. It seems that my crown is strong. This first photo was taken in August, 2010.

6 Month Update For the most part, it's coming along well... There is a definite cosmetic improvement overall. As far as concerns go, below you can see how the immediate center is lagging behind in growth from the rest. The right Temple/Corner is coming along just great. The left Temple/Corner is still behind in growth by about 20%.

HT #2: 10 Day Update I just got my sutures removed at 12 days post-op. Notice how the recipient area is barely red. At worse, it looks like a minor rash or a case of acne. The healing process was much easier the second time around and much less traumatic an experience overall. Just like with my first procedure, there was no swelling, bleeding or oozing. Of course, my donor area is still sensitive but that will go with time. To date, there has been no shock loss. I didn't experience any last time either so I'm hoping that it holds this time as well.

New Growth Update For the past couple months I have been taking photos of some of the more egregiously wispy, straggly, wiry or curly newly transplanted hairs. Of course, these hairs are immature and have a long way to go before they blend in with my naturally straight, fine, blonde hair. However, I thought some of you might find it useful to see what to expect from some of the new growth. Please bear in mind that these hairs are not the majority of new growth by any means. I reckon that they make up 25% of the new growth and are by far the more extreme anomalies...

HT #2: Immediate Post Op These pics were taken immediately post-op. The work looks really clean to me. I examined it closely and they really packed a lot of grafts into my hairline. Also, they squared off my hairline, so it almost appears as if they have lowered it, which technically they did, but only by about .25cm. 1,305 Grafts FUT.  Singles: 534 / Doubles: 728 / Triples: 43

HT #1: Scar Update At 8 months post-op, my scar is looking pretty good. The left side and back of my head has only a paper-thin scar. I'd say it's 1mm wide, or the width of a dime. It's quite difficult to find actually. Also, it is completely smooth and impossible to feel if I run my fingers along it. The right side has stretch a little though. It's still an acceptable result, but it is a little wider than that on the left and back. I would say that the right side is about 3mm wide, whereas the left and back is 1mm wide.

8 Month Update Here I am at 8 months post-op...  Bear in mind that the transplanted hair still has a lot more growing until it catches up with the native hair in length. I wear my hair about 6" long in the front; so far, the transplanted hair is only about 3" long.
