About

I have a family history of receding hairline. Every since my late 20s, my hairline has been receding and now at age of 35, I reckon I am at Norwood 2.

I started researching for hair transplant surgeons after making a decision to resolve the problem with a permanent fix. I chanced upon this forum and finally narrowed down my choice to Dr. Path from Bangkok due to the positive reviews from fellow forumers

My surgery was on 29 Jul 2013 and will be happy to answer any questions and share my experience at this blog :)

My Surgical Treatments to Date

1 Session FUT

1 hair - 253 grafts

2 hairs - 764 grafts

3 hairs - 215 grafts

Total grafts - 1,232

Total hairs - 2,426

My Non Surgical Treatments

Minoxidil - Did not use it long enough to see visible results. Will start again after hair transplant

Proscar - Hair loss slowed but stopped due to side effects

Hair loss treatment centres - Well.. let's just say that I wouldn't be typing this blog here if it had worked for me

Bald Class

Bald class 2

Norwood stage 2

There is a slight recession of the hairline around the temples. This is also known as an adult or mature hairline.

Without a doubt my confidence. I had to find different ways to style my hair to hide the hair loss.

I shall wait for the results of my transplant before commenting but it looks promising so far

5 months Progression At the 5 months mark, I am pretty please with the results. The hairline has filled in considerably. I am hoping that it will continue to add density in the months to come. I have had some emails from fellow blog users who have asked me to share my experience. Keep the emails coming!

1 month Recovery Recipient areas - all the scabs have fallen. However, some grafts still stubbornly refuse to fall out. I have started to apply Minoxidil from DHT clinic every morning and night at the recipient area Donor area - the itch has stopped. Scabs and stiches have all came off. I no longer feel any tightness and there is only a slight ache when i touched the area. Looks like it will continue to heal over the upcoming months

Day 20 On track! I have started applying Minoxidil 5% at the temples area once daily to hopefully improve the growth rate. For the crown area I do it twice daily Good news - The itching at the donor site has largely stopped; stitches and scabs have largely fell off - The crusts at the transplanted site has all shed, some grafts are starting to fall off but most of them still remain   Not so good news - There is shock loss at the donor site :(

Day 4 Pain & Tightness I have stopped using the headband since there are no signs of swelling. Felt more comfortable sleeping at night. Experienced some slight pains at the donor area but it was not bad enough for me to start popping painkillers. The tightness at the scalp feels like something pulling at my hair. Hopefully it will start to subside in days to come

Day 10 Itchiness I have been feeling itch at the donor site for the past few days. Appears that the scalp is flaky and peeling. I bought a bottle of pure olive oil and allowed it to soak in for an hour. This helped to ease the itch quite a bit. I was also surprised that a few pimples appeared at the grafted area at such an early stage. The grafts are forming scabs all over and turning flaky. Some hair shafts have also shed when the scabs fell off. Hopefully the scabs will fall out soon and so that the new shaft below the skin will grow and add some new hair :)

Day 1 Post consultation I arrived at the clinic at 1000 for a post-op consultation and hair wash. Dr. Path mentioned that he had tried to contact me at my hotel last night to check on my progress but the the reception was engaged. I thought that was a very nice gesture and it demonstrated the concern and care he has for his patients. He was pleased with how the donor area and grafts turned out (and so was I). I was reminded to keep the head band on for a few more days to minimise swelling and accumulation of fluids. I bought 3 months supply of Propecia and Minoxidil from the clinic and I plan to start using them in the months to come (I'm not sure if I will start on Propecia due to some side effects experienced previously but I will see how that goes). Finally at 1040, it was time to leave this beautiful city. I thanked the nurses and doctors and made my way to the airport for my flight back home!

Day 3 Tightness Donor area feels tight. Normally, I prefer to use a hard pillow during sleep to support my neck but in recent nights, I have changed to a softer pillow with memory foam. The pillow provides very soft support for my neck and there is also less pressure felt at the donor area. I did not require any painkillers to get by during the day or night. I did not experience any swelling but I will continue to wear the headband until Day 4. Today was the first time i shampooed my hair after the post-op shampoo. I lathered some Johnson Baby shampoo and gently patted (do not rub!) on the scalp to work in the shampoo. I then rinsed off by using my palm to cover the shower and let the water run through my scalp. I gently patted on my head with a dry towl and then used a hairdryer on cool setting (NO HEAT!) to dry the hair
