Removing Newly Transplanted Hairs before they Shed Naturally

7/14/2010 4:06:47 AM

Question:

I am 12 days post-op from hair restoration surgery and I'm upset that the newly transplanted hairs are still intact as I have to go back to work. I noticed that when I gently pull on them they easily come out. Sometimes the area is itchy and i can't help but scratch it. This also causes the hairs to fall out. Is it okay to pull on them so they will come out? I'd rather go to work with the same forehead then walk in with a visible hair transplant procedure.

Answer:

At 10 days after transplant surgery the implanted follicular units should be well anchored and not easily damaged. However, you must remain cautious and treat the recipient area with care. You should not pull the hair follicles out but allow them to fall out naturally over the next two to four weeks.

Aloe Vera gel can help alleviate itchiness during this time.
