Removing Scabs after Hair Transplant Surgery

1/20/2011 3:12:52 AM

Question:

I removed some remaining scabs with my fingernails 14 days after the hair restoration surgery. Most of the scabs which I removed contained hairs but they came off easily and there was no blood. Have I done damage to my grafts?

Answer:

Don’t worry. At 14 days after your hair transplant surgery, your follicular unit grafts should have been firmly anchored and protected below the scalp. Those hairs you saw fixed to the scabs were follicles that would have been shed anyway.

As long as you saw no blood and no tissue at the base of the hairs, you should be just fine. Any hair loss due to shedding or shock loss should begin to regrow at around 4 months after surgery along with your newly transplanted follicles.
