Transplanted Hairs are Not Shedding after Hair Transplant

10/15/2010 4:32:17 AM

Question:

I had my hair transplant (2300 grafts) about a month ago. A lot of the transplanted hairs on the top (at hairline and behind) have not fallen off yet. Scabs are gone. Is this good or bad news? I noticed that these hairs have probably grown a little bit. Will they continue growing or will they fall off later?

Answer:

There is nothing to worry about. You may be one of the small percentage of surgical hair restoration patients whose transplanted hairs skip the shedding phase and continue to grow.

It’s still early in the recovery process and some of those may still shed. You may also experience further balding due to temporary shock loss. Only time will tell.
