Question:
Can you please tell me how much time is involved in a hair transplant, how much it costs and are there any side effects?
Answer:
A typical follicular
unit transplant (FUT) can take between 5 and 8 hours depending upon the
number of grafts being placed. As with any surgical procedure, hair transplants
present the risk of infection and scarring. In addition, patients will often
experience temporary swelling, shock loss of existing hair, mild discomfort and
a discoloration of the scalp. However, in the hands of a skilled and
experienced hair restoration physician like those recommended
on the Hair
Transplant Network, many of these risks can be minimized or avoided
altogether.
New hair growth will begin between 3
and 4 months after hair restoration surgery. One year after surgery all your
grafts should have grown but continued thickening and maturation may continue
up to 18 months post-op.
Currently, the fee for follicular unit transplantation in the United States is between $4 and $6 per graft.
