When are the Transplanted Hairs Firmly Secured in my Scalp After Hair Replacement Surgery?

How long does it take the grafts to stay permanently in place after a hair transplant? I only ask because I had surgery done on Tuesday and every time i lightly wash my hair I am afraid that the transplanted hair will come out. I lightly dunked my head under water to clean off the shampoo and looked to see if any hairs fell out. Thankfully, they didn't. This must sound crazy, but after paying a lot of money you definitely want the best hair transplant result possible. So after 48 hours are they really locked in or is it possible that they will fall out?

Ten days after hair restoration surgery, your grafts will be firmly secured in your scalp. In the meantime, be sure to contact your physician to get detailed postoperative instructions. They should have gone through all this with you so you know what to expect.

Postoperative instructions are different depending on the clinic, so it is best to get the instructions from them. To see the postoperative instructions I followed for daily washing and careful handling of the grafts for the first 10 days, click here.

After ten days however, the grafts are firmly secured. Between two and four weeks, the transplanted hair will shed and you will look like you never had surgery with the same hair loss pattern. New hair growth typically starts around three to five months. Hair regrowth will start as thin, fine, and colorless and will slowly thicken and mature over time. They will not be visible when they first start to grow, but you will be able to feel them with your fingertips. They will also grow at different rates. Full maturation of hair replacement surgery is typically around the one year mark.

I hope this helps to give you an overview of what to expect.
